09/09/10

Well not much has been happening over here except lots of study. The food yesterday was a little disappointing, but it was okay. Today for lunch I had beef and Oh it tasted so good. It has been a while since I have had a steak. It was with sweet potatoes with brown sugar - which made them too sweet and beans, and coleslaw. Breakfast is still the usual yogurt, granola and strawberries. And a piece of toast with my vegemite tube thats always in my bag.

I am currently in a break between 2 classes and I need to take a nap before my next one as I get really tired in drawing really easily. After drawing I am going for a 30 min walk on the treadmill, then dinner, and then I have to ink a tile for tomorrow that no one has done, so depending how it goes it could be a long night.

Last night was really good. I was invited to the 4th year experimental design class (making clothes out of stuff that isnt fabric) as they had a lovely guest speaker who was a costume designer. I heard her conversing with the teacher before we went in and I thought she sounded a little odd. So then she started talking to us about how she made these tutus totally out of vogue magazines and newspaper. Turned into this huge thing. And then she started telling us about how she started here. She was born in Melbourne, started at western australian ballet company as a dresser, and then realised she had to come here. I wont tell her full story, but she has a very interesting story. We seem to have a lot in common. She came to America to solely do costume design for film. She went on to explain her full story and the ins and outs of getting into unions and stuff. I don't think the local people quite understood, but I sure did understand when she was talking about the difficulty of getting into the union.

I spoke to her afterwards and she was so happy that I was an aussie. I knew something was up with her accent which is now you could say indistinguishable. She gave me her contact info and told me if I wanted to intern for her next summer she would be more than happy. It is good to be Australian!

So anyway I must rest.

Happy Birthday Mum!
